Interim, Inc. held a grand opening for Sun Rose Apartments, our new 17-bed apartment complex to house homeless individuals living with mental illness, on Oct. 26th in Salinas. The event included a reception, lunch, site tours and multiple speakers. Board President Diana Rosenthal emceed the event. The complex houses adults 18+ living with a serious mental illness, who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness and low-income. Interim, Inc. broke ground on the $6.8 million project in August 2021 and construction was completed in September 2023. An additional $3 million in mandatory reserve funds were raised to cover a capitalized operating subsidy. This will keep tenant rents affordable for 20 years. Maintaining affordable rent is critical for the quality of life of residents.
Attendees were deeply touched by the inspiring stories of Meredith, Sun Rose’s first resident, featured in the above video, who overcame homelessness after nine months, and Success Over Stigma speaker and Interim Housing resident Beth Barrell.
