Interim’s Community Housing Program offers permanent, affordable supportive-housing in apartments and shared housing for adults living with mental health disabilities in Monterey County. We offer six cooperative group houses where residents have private bedrooms and share common living areas. We also offer 73 studio and one-bedroom apartments and two 2-bedroom units. All residents in community housing have leases and length of stay is unlimited if the resident maintains the terms of the lease. Residents are responsible for their own cleaning, cooking and laundry.
Community Housing’s supportive services include case management and mental health assistance. Staff assess client needs, develop individual treatment plans, refer residents to other agency and community resources, teach daily living and social skills, perform crisis intervention, facilitate individual and group counseling, and organize social activities.
The Lupine Gardens apartment facility was added to Interim under Interim’s Community Housing program in 2006. It is distinct in that it offers a higher level of support services for residents who need more intensive services. Support services are provided on-site, and there is a resident manager. Residents who are unable to manage cooking for all meals can obtain meals from Meals on Wheels. A cleaning and laundry service is also available upon request for a fee. Rent is 30 percent of each resident’s income. This property is a HUD 811 project, providing long-term permanent housing, with services funded through the Mental Health Services Act (Proposition 63). An individual waiting list is maintained for this specific property. Residents must be referred by the Monterey County Health Department Behavioral Health Division.
