For over 20 years, longtime resident John has called his apartment with Interim home. He first connected with the organization with help from his father and started out in Shelter Cove, a transitional supportive housing program. Not long after, he moved into his current permanent home in Monterey, where he’s built a life of independence, comfort, and community. “The counselors and staff I work with are really good. I have a good support system.”
His favorite activities are simple joys shared with others: “I like the food and community room lunches. The outings are nice, too. One of the other guys likes to organize outings at Toro Park.”
Over the years, he’s developed trusting relationships with staff, especially those who’ve offered one-on-one support. “The staff is really great. Tommy was one of the counselors—he helped me quite a bit.
When asked what he’s proudest of, he reflects on the friendships he’s built. “I’ve had accomplishments with my housemates,” he said. “It’s good to live in a place where you can go out and do things you want to do…It’s a great area,” he added with a smile.
After two decades with Interim, his message to others is simple but clear: “Interim is a good agency. I would say that.”
