Before Neil was hired by Interim, he attended the CSUMB Masters in Social Work (MSW) program and interned with Interim as well as with other local non-profits focusing on homelessness and substance use disorders. Upon graduation, he was hired by Interim for the Wellness and Recovery Academy, a day program which serves dual-diagnosis clients in recovery. In September 2021, he was promoted to Program Director of the Keep It Real (KIR) program.
Interim’s KIR Program provides harm reduction outpatient services to adults in Monterey County with co-occurring serious mental illness and substance use disorders. Counseling and education are provided individually and in groups to help clients in recovery from both mental illness and substance use disorders. KIR uses a harm reduction approach. The program also helps with independent living skills that may be impacted by mental health and or substance misuse as well as guides clients on clean and sober living, successful integration into community life and engaging in satisfying structured activities. Neil oversees a small but mighty staff of 6. The programs served a combined 201 clients from July 1, 2020-June 30, 2021.
In July, Neil will also be focusing on re-opening the Wellness and Recovery Academy, which closed during Covid. Neil loves working at Interim due to our company culture. “It is person-centered in every aspect, from the service delivery to the consumer to the staff.” He also appreciates the family atmosphere, the deep regard Interim has for its employees, and the recognition of the services that people provide. “There is a nurturing atmosphere, where forgiveness and mutual respect are emphasized,” Neil added. The mission of Interim also aligns with Neil’s personal values.
