[/split_line_heading][vc_column_text]The new Bridge House residential treatment facility project is ready to be occupied and we’re celebrating this achievement. Interim will hold a Bridge House Grand Opening event starting at 11:45 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2018, at 601 Bayonet Circle in Marina.

Lunch and building tours will follow the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Street parking for the event is available on Bayonet Court and Abrams Drive.

The Bridge House program serves adults with both a mental illness and substance use disorder (dually-diagnosed). For some time, Interim has needed a larger facility for this program. The need for residential treatment services for dually diagnosed individuals in Monterey County is overwhelming. Over 45% of individuals in the Monterey County adult mental health system also have a substance use disorder. The Bridge House program has averaged 97% occupancy for the past eight years and has a long wait list.

The new Bridge House facility will expand program capacity, including a residential treatment facility and day rehab program. The new facility has 14 beds, and the day rehab program capacity nearly doubles to 25 people per day. The residential facility and the day rehab program will serve a combined 70 clients per year. At a cost of over $4.5 million, the new residential facility is approximately 6,500 square feet and the new day rehab program building is approximately 2,500 square feet.

The new Bridge House site, owned by Interim, was originally part of a transfer of property from the Department of Health and Human Services following the Fort Ord base closure in the 1990’s. Construction began on March 27, 2017, and was completed on March 23, 2018.  Interim expects to occupy the property in April.

The Central California Alliance for Health awarded Interim a $2.5 million grant to support this project. The new Bridge House facility is also being supported by the California Health Facilities Financing Authority (loan), Monterey County Community Development Block Grant funds, the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, the Harden Foundation, the Community Foundation for Monterey County, and a variety of other community donors.

Monterey based Wald, Ruhnke and Dost Architects, LLP, provided architectural design services for this project and Avila Construction of Monterey was the general contractor.

Moving Bridge House to a new facility in Marina serves the purpose of expanding and improving the program’s services. The new Bridge House program configuration will:

  1. Provide a better facility for residents
  2. Improve office space and counseling rooms for treatment
  3. Allow Interim to add one additional treatment bed (bringing the total to 14 beds)
  4. Allow Interim to expand the Bridge House Day Rehabilitation Program, extend the treatment period, and serve twice as many clients. Currently, Interim can serve 13 in the day rehabilitation program at any given time. With the renovated facility, we will be able to serve 25.
  5. Facilitate the movement of clients into Interim’s Shelter Cove transitional housing, which is located at the same site. Bridge House residents who have exited the program into Shelter Cove will have access to continued support in the Bridge House day program (up to two years). Staff will be able to titrate treatment as clients become more stable.
  6. An additional benefit to this project is that it will allow Interim to convert the existing Bridge House in Monterey into a crisis residential treatment program, adding 13 new crisis beds in Monterey County, providing crisis residential treatment on the Monterey Peninsula for the first time. The new crisis facility, Manzanita House, will provide a cost-effective alternative to psychiatric hospitalization for adults in psychological distress or crisis in a non-institutional home environment. This will double Interim’s capacity to provide much-needed residential crisis care. The conversion will add 13 crisis beds to the 15 Interim currently has in Salinas.

Ultimately, expanding treatment and affordable housing options for this population is a good investment in our community.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row type=”in_container” full_screen_row_position=”middle” scene_position=”center” text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” overlay_strength=”0.3″ shape_divider_position=”bottom”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_position=”all” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” width=”1/1″ tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
