Although Medi-Cal and Medicare cover many of the health issues of our clients, these benefits cover only minimal dental benefits. Clients who cannot afford more expensive restorations such as crowns, need their teeth extracted. Few dentists accept Medi-Cal, so clients are unable to even find dentists locally to provide treatment. Delays, and lack of treatment, often result in poor outcomes including clients who are unable to properly chew food.
At Interim, we know that having good teeth and a good smile helps with self-esteem and better nutrition. When clients seek employment, missing teeth often impact their job prospects.
At Interim, we are committed to helping our clients with dental health as well as mental health. Our Good Samaritan Fund provides dental grants to help clients obtain treatment. Thomas obtained a set of dentures thanks to a grant from this fund; “I am so grateful to Interim for giving me my smile back!”
The Good Samaritan Fund also funds other essential needs for clients that can’t be obtained through any public benefits. It has paid for school fees, apartment deposits and furnishings, books, and even out of area travel for a client to a loved one’s funeral.
