Interim, Inc. Appoints Carmen Torres-Alfaro as New Deputy Director

Interim, Inc. is proud to announce that Carmen Torres-Alfaro has been selected for the agency Deputy Director position.  An experienced mental healthcare professional, Carmen will succeed Dr. Jane Odegard and transition into the Deputy Director position during August 2022. After nearly 18 years with Interim, Jane is transitioning to a part time role in the agency, Clinical and Program Development Advisor as she will be relocating out of state.  She will continue to work remotely training Carmen and assisting with business development as well as supervising psychiatric services.

Jane had this to say about her replacement, “Carmen is recovery focused and experienced.  I have complete confidence that Carmen will serve Interim Inc. well into the future as Deputy Director.”

With over 21 years of experience in the mental health field, Carmen joined Interim Inc in 2001 after graduating from the University of California at Berkeley with a dual bachelor’s degree in Social Welfare and Psychology. Carmen started as a Counselor at Interim’s Manzanita House in January 2001 and thereafter became an Assistant Program Director moving to Community Housing to develop and implement the MCSTAR program in October of 2001.  She was instrumental in opening Interim’s Lupine Gardens in 2006 as part of the Community Housing program.  In 2011 Carmen became a Program Director for Manzanita House before moving in 2013 to the Program Director of Wellness and Employment Services where she helped in developing and implementing the Choices Day Treatment Intensive Program in 2016 and the Assertive Community Treatment Program. In 2019 she became the Division Director for Quality Assurance.

Barbara Mitchell, Interim’s Executive Director, noted that “Carmen is a real asset to the agency. Her combination of skills and education, plus her extensive knowledge of the agency programs and the local Behavioral Health system make her the perfect candidate for this position.”

While working with Interim, Carmen obtained her master’s degree in 2011 in Counseling Psychology and a clinical license as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 2018. Carmen also completed the leadership development program (LEAD) through the Community Foundation for Monterey County in 2013.

Carmen shared, “I am overwhelmed with gratitude and humbled to have been selected for this position. During my continued time at Interim, I have been provided the opportunity to develop and grow through supportive mentorship, which has given me the confidence to step into this career path. I am honored to continue my career advancement with Interim and carry out its vision and mission along with this amazing team.”
