Group Cooking Projects
Many of our clients benefit from having prepared frozen meals accessible, so it’s nice to have a group of volunteers to prepare and package individual entrees that our staff can store and distribute to the people we serve. To schedule a weekend cooking project with your club, congregation or co-workers, contact the Development Office at 831.649.4522, ext. 205.
Classes for Personal Development
The Our Voices and OMNI Resources Center would love to offer a wider range of classes. If you can teach a four- to eight-week class in yoga, art, Spanish, or cooking please contact the Development Office at 831.649.4522, ext. 205.
Now that the growing season is upon us, the garden and green house at Shelter Cove need tending. Volunteers who can help Interim clients with planting, weeding, and harvesting are greatly appreciated! Call the Development Office at 831.649.4522 ext. 205 to volunteer.
Sunflower Gardens Looks Forward to Home-grown Veggies!
Thanks to a generous donation of seeds and seedlings from Bokay Nursery in Salinas and a fresh load of top soil from McShane’s Nursery, also in Salinas, residents will soon be munching on their own cilantro, onions, basil, Asian carrots, Danvers carrots, corn, serrano peppers, cauliflower and two kinds of beans. The garden will also have tomatoes and zucchini because, really, no garden is complete without tomatoes and zucchini!
“These gardens create healthy food and a sense of community for residents,” says Alan Bilinsky, Interim’s Housing Development and Property Director, “In order to encourage these gardens we like to leave a prepared garden spot in each of our projects. It takes a tenant champion though to make them sustainable, and it’s always a pleasure when we find a champion like the ones we have at Sunflower Gardens.”
