Interim Inc.’s Big Idea for Monterey County Gives! 2018 campaign has been accepted.
We are raising funds for construction costs to convert common living areas in seven of our Shelter Cove transitional housing units adding seven bedroom to the units.
Shelter Cove is a 32-bed transitional housing program for homeless adults with mental illness. The program is structured to serve people who need support in maintaining sobriety and in improving their mental health stability. It currently serves over 50 people per year.
The new beds will be located in the downstairs common areas of the housing. These housing units are large and have approximately 1,000 square feet downstairs in shared space. By remodeling these units to add seven bedrooms, we will be able to serve more clients, as many as 65 people a year. Because we will be remodeling our existing property to add additional beds, we are doing this at a fraction of the cost of new construction.
We are also proposing to add showers in the downstairs half baths in three of the units to increase the number of accessible bathrooms in Shelter Cove. Some of our clients are medically fragile or have physical disabilities that prevent them from walking up stairs. We currently only have one two-bedroom unit that is fully ADA accessible.
MC Gives! generates a matching fund to encourage more giving, this year expected to be more than $350,000. Each nonprofit will receive their prorated share of the match based on total funds earmarked for their group by the donors. MCGives! provides the prorated match on the first $75,000 an organization raises in MCGives!, to ensure the overall match fund is shared most equitably among all participating nonprofits. For every dollar raised during last year’s MCGives! campaign, the match was approximately 12% for participating organizations.
The MCGives! website www.montereycountygives.com goes live on Nov. 8 and the campaign runs through midnight Dec. 31.
