Interim's mission is to provide services and affordable housing supporting members of our community
with mental illness in building productive and satisfying lives.

Manzanita House

Manzanita House offers a community-based alternative to inpatient psychiatric care for people with psychiatric disabilities who are in psychological distress or crisis. It provides a structured, non-institutional, home-like environment with a feeling of community. Interim’s staff works with residents to develop strategies to avoid recurrence of crisis situations.

With the staff’s help, residents create client-centered goals and develop plans to follow through with them; these often focus on obtaining housing, coping with mental illness, improving interpersonal relationships, and strengthening the residents’ existing support systems. Staff holds all medications and provides residents with educational material on the use and benefits of psychiatric medication. Meals are provided, and residents work together to maintain their living spaces.

Located in Salinas, this 15-bed, short-term residential crisis program also provides a structured day program five days a week.

Manzanita receives referrals from Monterey County Health Department–Behavioral Health Division, Adult Services, and Interim programs. All referrals are clients of Monterey County Behavioral Health. Maximum length of stay is 30 days.
