Residential Treatment Programs: Interim operates two programs licensed as social rehabilitation facilities by the State Department of Community Care Licensing (CCL) under the California Department of Social Services. These programs provide residential treatment and are certified as either a short-term crisis program or a transitional residential treatment program by the State Department of Mental Health. Residents pay a fee for the room and board on a sliding scale.
Employment Services: For all of us, the work we do is a very important part of who we are. Helping adults with mental illness develop a meaningful work or school life is the goal of Interim’s Employment Services programs. We provide a wide range of supportive employment programs for our clients, for adults with mental illness who are living independently, and for family and friends who support them. Support services include career, vocational, and educational counseling, résumé development, budgeting, and interview coaching, just to name a few.
To build their employment skills, many of our clients volunteer in the community or work directly for Interim. Forty-eight of our clients work for Interim as community support workers (peer counselors), kitchen assistants, administrative assistants, janitorial staff, and gardening and maintenance staff. In the fall of 2010, Interim was named an Employer of the Year by the Monterey County Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities (MCCEPD) for our success employing adults with disabilities. This followed on the heels of our December 2009 recognition as an Employer of the Year by the State Department of Rehabilitation for our success hiring or finding employment for adults with disabilities!
Peer-Led Programs: Interim provides two peer-led support programs for adults with mental health challenges: Our Voices in Monterey and The OMNI Resource Center in Salinas. The goals of the peer-led programs are two-fold: first, to motivate and educate adults with mental illness to take an active role in creating their own wellness and, second, to provide consumers with the skills to lead their peers and their communities in a range of wellness, social, and vocational activities.
According to the 2013 Homeless Census for Monterey County, the majority of adults with a serious mental illness are very low-income and on public assistance. The average Social Security Income of a single disabled individual in the Monterey-Salinas area is $850 per month, and the current Fair Market Rent of a studio apartment in Monterey County is $868 per month! Disabled adults simply can’t afford to live in Monterey County.
We offer a wide range of housing options, from transitional supportive housing for our clients who need to attain stability to permanent supportive housing for our clients who can manage independently.
